Kite Festival Week: The Biggest Event of the Year!
Alright, this is it – the BIGGEST event in Long Beach all year! The Washington State International Kite Festival runs August 19-25, and if you've never experienced it, you're in for something truly special.
What Is It?
Professional kite flyers from around the world descend on Long Beach for a week of aerial artistry. We're talking:
- Massive display kites the size of buildings
- Synchronized team performances
- Night kite fly with lights and music
- Kite-making workshops
- Competitions and demonstrations
Why It's So Special
This isn't your childhood kite flying. These are artists. The choreographed performances set to music, the massive octopi and whales floating overhead, the precision of team flying... it's mesmerizing.
Plus, you can walk right onto the beach and be feet away from world champions doing their thing.
SeaQueen During Kite Festival
The Good:
- Walking distance to the festival (beach access is RIGHT THERE)
- Private yard for your dogs while you festival-hop
- Hot tub for sore feet after beach walking
- Modern kitchen for meal prep (restaurants are BUSY)
The Real Talk:
- Town is packed (but in a fun, energetic way)
- Restaurants have waits (plan ahead or cook at home)
- Traffic moves slower (just embrace it)
- Everything books months in advance
Festival Pro Tips
- Morning is best: Professional flyers practice in AM, crowds are lighter
- Bring layers: Beach wind is real
- Stay for night fly: Friday and Saturday evening light shows are incredible
- Visit the museum: World Kite Museum has special exhibits during festival
Is SeaQueen Available?
Kite Festival week books out by February usually. If you're reading this and it's available – GRAB IT. If not, start planning for 2025 right now.
First Time at Kite Festival?
You'll be blown away (pun intended). It's whimsical, impressive, family-friendly, and uniquely Pacific Northwest. And having SeaQueen as your home base means you can enjoy the festival without the chaos.
After a day on the beach watching kites, you can retreat to your private hot tub, grill some dinner, and let the dogs decompress in the yard. That's the SeaQueen advantage.
See you on the beach!
